VISAKHAPATNAM: Mumbai scored a one-wicket win over Kolkata in a pool ‘A’ league encounter and earned two points in the 28th all-India major ports cricket tournament here on Monday. It also qualified for the semifinals on better run rate.
All the three teams in the pool, including last year’s winner Mormugao, finished with two points each and better run rate helped Mormugao and Mumbai make the last four.
Host and last year’s runner-up Visakhapatnam entered the semifinals from pool ‘B’ with a 10-wicket win over Paradip, thanks to a 106-run stand between openers N. Srinivasa Reddy (68, 12x4) and K. Ramakrishna (29, 2x4).
Mormugao meets Mumbai and Visakhapatnam takes on JNPT in the semifinals to be played on Wednesday after a day’s rest.
The scores: Kolkata 118 for nine in 30 overs lost to Mumbai 119 for nine in 16.1 overs (S. Srivastav 47).
Paradip 104 for nine lost to Visakhapatnam 106 for no loss in 12.5 overs (N. Srinivasa Reddy 68 n.o.).
Chennai 194 for eight (K. Loganathan 56, Anil Patil five for 46) lost to JNPT 198 for no loss in 25.3 overs (Mahesh Garat 119 n.o., Nandu Mhatre 64 n.o.). — Special Correspondent
