Coimbatore: India's Narain Karthikeyan will be eager to put his disappointing season opener behind him when the Super League Formula series begins at the TT circuit in Assen, the Netherlands, on Sunday.
The Coimbatore-based driver, who is representing home team PSV Eindhoven, on Friday entertained an incredible 12,000 spectators along with three other drivers.
“The track, specifically designed for two-wheelers, is a challenging one. This is the first time I am driving here. Overtaking is really tough in this circuit. To add to that, I have some reliability issues with the car. However, I am going to put my best foot forward,” said Narain.
Fans lined the town centre's canal to catch a glimpse of the drivers and their monster machines.
Narain was amazed by the huge turnout. “It was a great atmosphere. Having the water so close was also a new experience. It was good to see crowd enjoying every minute of the show. I couldn't do donuts because we didn't have spare wet tyres,” added Narain, the first Indian to race in Formula One and NASCAR.
With the demonstration runs completed, the drivers traded their racing shoes for football boots as they took on former Bayern Munich and Belgian international goalkeeper Jean-Marie Pfaff in an impromptu penalty shootout.
