Coimbatore: Aditya Patel of Chennai staved off a stiff challenge from Mumbai's Ameya Walavalkar to emerge the senior class champion in the opening leg of the JK Tyre Rotax Mojo Max Indian Karting Challenge at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near here, on Sunday.
The karting drivers, who spent most part of the day watching the riders in the Ucal Rolon championship in action rose to the occasion when their turn came.
Aditya, son of veteran rally driver Kamlesh Patel, got off to a flying start.
So did the experienced Walavalkar. The duo fought it out right through. Rayomand Banajee of Pune finished a distant third.
The junior class witnessed similar action. Chennai's Vishnu Prasad fought an interesting duel before getting past Parth Ghorpade for the title. In the mini max category, it was Shashank Ravi Shankar of Chennai all the way.
