G.K. Monisha stunned top seed Padmini Rout in the sixth round of the 40th National women’s challengers’ chess championship at Hotel Kovilakam Residency here on Monday. The win helped Monisha move into the lead, along with four others — Nisha Mohota, M. Mahalakshmi, who held second seed Soumya Swaminathan to a draw, Swati Ghate and Ivana Maria Furtado.

All have five points each.

Half-a-point behind them are G. Lasya, Soumya, Kiran Manisha Mohanty, Aarthie Ramaswamy, Pratyusha Bodda, Nimmy A. George, Rucha Pujari and R. Bharathi.
