Abhimanyu Mithun of Karnataka will replace Praveen Kumar, who is down with a chest injury, in the Indian squad named for the first three ODI against the West Indies.

In a press release, the BCCI secretary, Sanjay Jagdale, said Praveen was suffering from a “blunt chest on the left side'' and was ruled out of the first three One-Day Internationals, the first of which is to be played at the Barabati Stadium here on Tuesday.

Praveen Kumar, who played a first class match last against Saurashtra in the Ranji Trophy at Meerut from November 10 to 13, bowled just one over for Uttar Pradesh in the second innings of Saurashtra. He delivered 27 overs in the first innings.

It is understood that Praveen picked up the injury during the October 29 Twenty20 match played at the Eden Gardens against England and sought a two-week break from the Board. He returned to play in the Ranji game but the injury seemed to have resurfaced following which he opted out. — Special Correspondent
