Coimbatore: Two new meet records were set in the men’s section on the second day of the 26th Bharathiar University inter-collegiate athletic meet here on Thursday.

S. Meignana Kumar of RVS College of Arts and Science threw the javelin to a distance of 58.49m for a new meet record. His effort erased the existing mark of 57.40m set by Sreekumar G. Kartha of PSG College of Arts and Science way back in 1982.

Earlier, Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science stopped the clock at 44.1s for a new meet record in the 4x100m relay. The old mark of 44.2s stood in the name of PSGCAS

Women: 5000m: V. Rubadevi (Kongu Arts) 21:38:3s. 100m hurdles: A. Santha Jenitha (Nirmala) 19.2s. Discus: S. Saranya Prakash (PSG CAS) 28.30m. 400m: V. Rubadevi (Kongu A&S) 1:05.8s. High jump: M. Sowmya (Kongu Arts) 1.46m. 4x100m: Kongu AS 55.2s.

Easy win

At Salem, P. Manikandan Ramani chipped in with a useful 74 in Students Senior Cricket Club’s seven-wicket win over Kannan Cricket Club in the Canara Bank-SDCA first division league recently.

The scores (first division): Kannan CC 190 in 42 overs (R.M. Selva 54) lost to Students Senior CC 192 for three in 31.3 overs (P. Manikandan Ramani 74, P. Balachandar 52). Second division: Gandhiji CC w/o. Pauls CC, Free Birds CC 165 in 40 overs lost to Rajagopalan CC 166 for five in 28.4 overs. Third division: Youngstar CC w/o. SRS CC, SISCOl CC 117 in 45 overs (Gangadharan four for 37) lost to DD CC 118 for six in 19 overs (Yogamani 48, M.K. Senthil five for 35).

Big win for Riverside

Riverside Public School posted an eight-wicket win over Hebron School in the NDCA under-13 inter school cricket tournament for the Selai Gowder Memorial Trophy here on Thursday.

The scores: Hebron 73 (G. Aravind Raj three for 14, B.T. Joseph three for 16) lost to Riverside Public School 75 for two in 15.3 overs.
