LONDON: Christopher Martin-Jenkins, BBC's Test Match Special commentator, will serve as the next President of Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC). His one-year term will begin on October 1 this year.

This announcement was made at Lord's on Wednesday during MCC's annual general meeting headed by John Barclay, the current president.

Martin-Jenkins, who became a member of the MCC in 1967, was elected to the MCC committee in 2009. In 2007, he became the first journalist and broadcaster to be invited to speak at the annual MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture.

“I am delighted to nominate Christopher Martin-Jenkins as MCC President and believe he will do an excellent job,” Barclay said. — P. Subramanyam
