The Olympic and three-time World champion Maria Mutola was on Tuesday announced as the Event Ambassador for the TCS World 10k Bangalore. Regarded as one of the finest 800m runners of all time, Mutola became the first athlete from Mozambique to win an Olympic gold at Sydney in 2000.

“India is fast emerging as one of the leading long distance running destinations of the world and I am looking forward to interacting with running enthusiasts in Bangalore,” the 40-year-old was quoted as saying. “I hope my visit helps in some way to inspire young, budding athletes to work harder and achieve glory.”

The TCS World 10k Bangalore will be run on May 19. Olympic champions Constantina Dita and Linford Christie have endorsed the event in past years. — Sports Reporter
