The acting president of the suspended Indian Olympic Association (IOA), Prof. Vijay Kumar Malhotra, has announced that senior administrators G.S. Mander and S. Raghunathan would be in charge for the smooth conduct of the Queen’s Baton Relay here on October 12 and 13.
Olympians and IOA officials will receive the Queen’s Baton at the airport on the evening of October 11.
The Baton will be taken to the Taj Mahal in Agra on October 12 and return to the capital in the afternoon. The British High Commissioner will host a reception for the Baton in the evening.
The next day, the UNICEF will hold a programme in the morning and the Baton will be taken to the Qutub Minar by the athletes and officials in the afternoon. The Baton will go to Dhaka on October 14.
As the host of the last Commonwealth Games in 2010, Delhi will be the first city to receive the Queen’s Baton to signal the count-down for the next Commonwealth Games to be staged in Glasgow, Scotland, next year. — Special Correspondent
