Chennai: The Indian hockey team had a light workout at the Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium here on Wednesday.

Intermittent rain proved a dampener, restricting a full-fledged session. In fact, there were doubts whether a practice session would be possible at all. There were indications that the team might prefer spending sometime in the gymnasium.

But the weather relented late in the evening, allowing the coaches, Joaquim Carvalho, Ramesh Parameswaran and Mohinder Pal Singh, to spend about an hour on the soaked field.

Without the former captain, Dilip Tirkey and midfielder Bimal Lakra, the rest of the team had assembled in the city. The two senior players are expected to be here on Thursday. — Hockey Correspondent
