Ahead of the CSK-KXIP match, KXIP coach Darren Lehmann said the players will carry the confidence gained from its match against the Mumbai Indians on Monday.
“We probably should have won that game,” he said. “We let ourselves down with the bat. But we made a good fist of it. So we will definitely carry some confidence.”
Skipper M.S. Dhoni has been the difference between teams on many occasions this year and Lehmann stressed on the need to “limit” his scoring opportunities and “pick him up early.”
KXIP’s regular captain Adam Gilchrist was benched for the previous match against Mumbai Indians, but Lehmann was non committal when asked if he would sit out of the game against CSK as well.
“We don’t know as yet. But it was a tough decision [against MI]. We took the call at the selection panel and he is a part of it as well. He was pretty adamant not to play and you have to make such decisions to find the right balance.”
On the in-form David Miller being moved up the order, he said: “May be. But he is so good from where he is right now. He is getting enough time and he is improving. Hopefully he can continue doing the same.”
For KXIP, good starts have been hard to come by and Lehmann admitted that it could be better.
“Our powerplays have been good. But we would love our openers to be there through the powerplay. But its not that they are meaning to get out. It’s just the way it has gone. They are playing positively and we will tinker around to get the best combination.”
