The Parliamentary Consultative Committee for the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports deliberated on Wednesday on the proposal of the ministry to bring out a National Sports Development Bill.

The Union Minister of State for Sports (Independent charge), Ajay Maken, gave an overview of the proposed legislation, and informed the committee that a preliminary exposure draft had been placed in the public domain.

According to an official release, the panel members were unanimous in their view that sports legislation at the national level was essential for the professional management of sports in the country and to protect sportspersons' rights, among other things. — Special Correspondent
