Chennai: Hyderabad left-arm spinner G. Lalith Mohan was rewarded for his persistent line with a five-wicket haul against TNCA, which helped bowl the host out for 178 on the second day of the inter-state South zone under-22 cricket tournament for the P. Ramachandra Rao Trophy at MAC, on Tuesday.
Earlier, the Hyderabad innings ended at 178 in 73.4 overs after resuming on 165 for nine (The report, in the issue dated October 14, had incorrectly mentioned it as Kerala).
TNCA managed two half-century stands, even as Lalith’s sharp turn posed a definite challenge post lunch. Abhinav Mukund and Ra. Aravind put on 54 runs for the second wicket before Aravind edged one to first slip off Mohan and Abhinav’s attempted cut off P.S.S. Bharat found the stumps.
P. Shijith Chandran and N. Einstein were involved in a 61-run fourth-wicket stand. Both batsmen began cautiously after the two quick wickets, but scored steadily thereafter.
Lalith kept it tight throughout to make sure TNCA did not get past Hyderabad’s score.
In another match, Karnataka skipper Ganesh Sathish scored his third consecutive century to take his side to 250 for the loss of six wickets against Goa. His 257-ball 140 comprised 15 boundaries.
The captain put on 129 runs for the fifth wicket in 49 overs with K.C. Avinash, who made 43.
Play was suspended at 2.30 p.m. due to rain, after which it was resumed at 5 p.m.
Only 57 overs were possible in the Kerala-Andhra match, with Kerala making 133 for the loss of four wickets.
At CPT-IP: Kerala 133 for four in 57 overs vs Andhra.
At MAC: Hyderabad 178 in 73.4 overs (R. Ashwin six for 69) & 15 for two in eight overs vs TNCA 178 in 81.5 overs (Abhinav Mukund 40, P. Shijith Chandran 42, Lalith Mohan five for 47).
At ICL Gurunanak: Karnataka 250 for six in 88.3 overs (Ganesh Sathish 140, K.C. Avinash 43, Saurabh Bandekar four for 45) vs Goa. — Sports Reporter
