NEW DELHI: Lajja Gauswami made the women’s 50-metre rifle 3-posiiton final, but had to be content with the eighth spot in the shooting World Cup in Milan. Lajja shot a 581 in the qualifying phase, with 196 in prone, 189 in standing and 196 in kneeling.

However, she had to win a qualifying shoot-off against Daniela Peskova of Slovakia to make the final.

The Indian shot a 48.3 to the 46.8 by the Slovak. In the final Lajja could muster only a 96.7, the second lowest score among the eight finalists, and thus could not improve on her position. It was an improvement in performance for the 20-year-old Lajja, though she had finished better in the Changwon World Cup earlier, taking the fifth spot.The results:
