BANGALORE: Virat Kohli, busy training at the National Cricket Academy ever since the Sahara BCCI Corporate Trophy tournament concluded, was in for a pleasant surprise here on Thursday.

Kohli expressed his delight when news of him replacing an injured Gautam Gambhir in the Indian team for the Compaq Cup tri-series trickled in.

“I am very happy and excited and I am looking forward to the challenge. I am extremely excited at the possibility of opening the innings with Sachin Tendulkar,” said Kohli.

Kohli’s 392 runs in the Emerging Players tournament earlier in Australia, that helped India ‘A’ clinch the title, also aided his comeback and he will leave for Colombo on Friday. — Principal Correspondent
