A new-look KGF Academy opened its BDFA Super Division football league campaign with a draw against Postal on Wednesday.
KGF Academy, the defending champion, lost seven of its players to newly-formed professional club South United FC at the end of last season. The team looked out of sorts in the first half, conceding the lead to a strike by Postal’s Ricky Joy.
Postal could have doubled its lead a few minutes later through striker Sehlenmang, who found himself with only the goalkeeper to beat after a misjudged pass from a KGF Academy defender. Sehlenmang, though , could not get any power or direction on the strike.
The second half saw a better show from the defending champion. In the 54th minute, KGF Academy equalised through a curling free-kick from Anwar, a fine example of precision play despite a difficult angle.
The final minutes were marked by a couple of excellent through passes from Postal’s Nikhil Das, but poor finishing by substitute Stephen ensured that KGF Academy gained a point from the outing.
The results: Super Division: Postal 1 (Ricky Joy) drew with KGF Academy 1 (Anwar).
‘A’ division: CIL 2 (Pratap, Karthik) lost to Bangalore Kickers 3 (Dayananda, Suraj, Suraj Singh). — Special Correspondent
