The All India Football Federation’s (AIFF) competition committee has announced Kerala as the venue for this season’s Federation Cup. The tournament will be held from January 1 to 12 next year.
In August, AIFF had shelved its plans to conduct the tournament on a home-and-away basis and reverted to the old format of hosting it at a single venue. The 16-team event will feature four groups of four teams each with the pool winners qualifying for the semifinals.
The committee, chaired by Z.A. Thakur, also decided the dates and venue for next year’s Santosh Trophy. After the zonal qualifiers are organised from December 1 to 20, the competition’s final phase will be played at Siliguri between January 15 and 31, 2014.
Meanwhile, the committee chose Kalyani (West Bengal) and Odisha as hosts for the National under-14 boys’ tournament (Nov. 10 to 30) and junior National football championship for girls (Nov. 20 to Dec. 5), respectively. — Sports Reporter
