: Seeking to replicate the success of the IVL, the Karnataka Volleyball Association on Monday announced the conduct of a Karnataka Volley League, beginning at the end of this month.
The four-week competition will feature six teams from the State and offers a total prize money of Rs. 8.20 lakh.
“This is a dream project of ours and we hope it will help promote the sport,” said K. Nandakumar, General Secretary of the KVA.
The tournament will be held in four phases at four different venues — three in Bangalore and one in Bangarpet.
Teams will play 20 matches — in a round-robin format — over the course of the KVL, with a winner declared after each phase and at the end of the competition.
The line-up — BSNL, ASC, KSP, MEG, LIC, and Sports Hostel — includes the top five from the State ‘A’ division league.
The teams were chosen on the basis of their performance over the last one year, said Nandakumar.
With sides allowed to field three players from other States, several members of the junior Indian men’s side are expected to be involved.
The KVL would seek to be an annual affair, Nandakumar said, with performances counting for selection to the State team.
