Tirunelveli: Kanyakumari entered the quarterfinals (third stage) of the TNCA inter-district under-19 cricket tournament with a 95-run victory over host Tirunelveli on the concluding day of the two-day match at the Sankar School ground, Sankarnagar, on Friday.

Resuming at 131 for eight, Tirunelveli could add only 16 runs to its total.

Kanyakumari piled up 183 in 50 overs riding on Antony Das’ 81 in its second innings and dismissed Tirunelveli for 130 in 28 overs in the second innings.

Swamy Sivananda HSS advances

At Madurai, defending champion, Swamy Sivananda Higher Secondary School (Coimbatore) entered the quarterfinals of the 11th annual E.Rm.E. Rengasamy memorial Trophy State-level inter-school volleyball tournament, organised by Mahatma Montessori School, Alagarkoil, on Friday.

In the basketball tournament, St. Mary’s HSS (Madurai) entered the last eight defeating St. Xavier’s HSS (Palayamkottai) 59-32.

Usilampatti tops league

Usilampatti is likely to get the SDAT Village Nursery Scheme Centre for Handball as it topped the handball league tournament organised by the Madurai unit of SDAT among three chosen villages at the MGR Race Course Stadium on Wednesday.

The other two villages are Ayyanarpuram and Nagamalai Pudukottai.

Cricket trials

At Karaikudi, trials to select the Sivagangai district under-22 cricket team will be held at the CECRI ground at 8.30 a.m. on July 22.

Cricket tournament

At Ramanathapuram, a cricket tournament was organised by the Ramanathapuram SDAT among three villages.

Chakrakottai, Devipatnam and T. Karumbur participated and Chankrakottai topped the table with two wins and it is likely to get the Village Nursery Scheme Centre for Cricket.

Football league

At Dindigul, a football league was organised by the Dindigul unit of SDAT, in which three-villages-Jambuliampatti, Nilakottai and Batlagundu participated.

Jambuliampatti topped the table and it is likely to get the Football Centre of that scheme.

Karate meet

GRD College of Science and Commerce and the Coimbatore District Karate Association will jointly host the district zone-level karate championship at the GRD indoor stadium in Coimbatore on July 22.

State TT from today

The Tamil Nadu Table Tennis Association, Vellore District Table Tennis Association and Shrishti Matriculation Higher Secondary School are jointly organising the Tamil Nadu State table tennis ranking tournament at the Shrishti school premises in Brammapuram near Vellore on July 21 and 22.

The tournament will be held in 10 categories. About 600 players are participating in the tournament.

R. Pitchai, Chief Educational Officer, Vellore will inaugurate the tournament at 8 a.m. on Saturday.
