: Punam Tete struck two early goals to help Jharkhand beat Punjab 4-1 and reach the semifinals of the National junior women’s hockey championship at the Motilal Nehru School of Sports complex, Rai, here on Monday.

After Punam hit the target twice in the first 10 minutes, Punjab reduced the margin through Navjot Kaur in the 17th. Jharkhand extended its lead after the change of ends as drag-flicker Anima Minz (53) and Nomita Xalxo (56) scored in quick succession.

In another quarterfinal match, defending champion Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy (MPHA) thrashed Delhi 5-0. Ramngaihzuali Ralte (24 & 62) and Shivani Singh (49 & 57) scored a brace each, while Reena Kataria (50) netted one.

The results (quarterfinals) : MPHA 5 (Ramngaihzuali Ralte 2, Shivani Singh 2, Reena Kataria) bt Delhi 0; Jharkhand 4 (Punam Tete 2, Anima Minz, Nomita Xalxo) bt Punjab 1 (Navjot Kaur).
