NAGERCOIL: Madurai and Tiruchi will clash for the boys' title, while Erode and Tiruvannamalai will lock horns in the girls' final in the SAI State-level inter-district volleyball tournament for boys' and girls' (under-16) organised by SDAT at Anna Stadium, Nagercoil.

In the boys' semifinals played on Saturday, Tiruchi beat Nagapattinam easily at 25-17, 25-20, 25-23, while Madurai, with great difficulty, disposed of Tirunelveli in an absorbing encounter. Madurai won 23-25, 25-19, 25-16, 23-25, 15-9.

In the girls' semifinals, Erode beat Chennai 24-26, 25-21, 25-11, 25-14 and Tiruvannamalai beat Namakkal 25-23, 25-21, 25-4.

Kapil to lead

K.J. Kapil Dev of Railways will lead the India team in the 15th Asian Games volleyball tournament, to be held at Doha from December 1 to 15.

Double for Dindigul

Dindigul achieved a ground double by winning both the boys and girls titles in the SAI State-level inter-district football tournament for boys and girls (under-16) organised by SDAT at the Dindigul Stadium on Saturday.

In the boys' final, Dindigul posted a thumping 4-1 victory over Tiruvarur. Satheesh (2), Vinod and Leo scored. Mohamed Gowri scored the goal for Tiruvarur.

In the girls' final, Dindigul scored an emphatic 4-0 win over Erode. Jeyanthi (2), Radhika and kavitha scored.

Semifinalists spotted

Tamil Nadu men defeated Puducherry 29-11, while Andhra Pradesh outplayed Tamil Nadu 25-16 in the women's section of the South Zone netball championship at Khammam on Saturday.
