NEW DELHI: Isha Lakhani stopped a fighting Tara Iyer in her stride with a 1-6, 6-3, 7-6 (3) victory in the pre-quarterfinals of the $10,000 ITF women's tennis tournament at the DLTA Complex here on Wednesday. Isha will next meet Parul Goswami, as the eighth seed recovered from a similar slow start to outwit Liza Pereira.
Shalini outplays Wei
Qualifier Shalini Sahoo played patiently and hit her flat shots to telling effect in outplaying Wei-Ping Lee of Singapore in an energy-sapping climax. Lee had beaten the fourth-seeded Sanaa Bhambri earlier but could not sustain her effort against an unranked opponent.
Rushmi Chakravarthi was in irrepressible form as she outclassed the free-stroking Pichittra Thongdach of Thailand, and will be challenged by Sandy Gumulya of Indonesia. Megha Vakaria recovered from 0-3 to overwhelm Lu Jing-Jing of China and will challenge the top-seeded Ankita Bhambri in the quarterfinals.
