IOC pipped ONGC 4-3 in a crucial super league Pool ‘A’ match of the Torex 50th Nehru senior hockey tournament on Friday.

IOC scored twice in as many minutes towards the end to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat. ONGC started off on the right note, the two quick penalty corner conversions by Diwakar Ram giving it a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes. However, IOC fought back through Sunil Yadav and Yuvraj Walmiki, both scoring off rebounds after penalty corners.

After the break, ONGC once again went ahead through Ranjeet Singh, who scored off a goalmouth melee. However, IOC captain Deepak Thakur rose to the occasion. The third goal was his creation as he worked his way into the circle before passing to a better-positioned Walmiki to score.

Roshan Minz scored the winner with a brilliant solo two minutes later.

The results (super league): Pool ‘A’: IOC 4 (Yuvraj Walmiki 2, Sunil Yadav, Roshan Minz) bt ONGC 3 (Diwakar Ram 2, Ranjeet Singh); SCR 4 (Janardhan Gupta 2, Mayank James, Gurbhej Singh) bt Central Railway 3 (Shashi Topno 2, Anup Walmiki). — Special Correspondent
