New Delhi: The Indian women's hockey team, which finished 11th in the World Cup, maintained the 13th spot in the latest World rankings issued by the International Hockey Federation.
The Indian women had a disappointing World Cup in Madrid, where they lost five games, drew one and won one to finish11th among 12 teams.
India, which had 536 points before the tournament, now has 850 points. But, as other teams are far ahead in terms of points, its marginal improvement did not see any rise in the ranking.
The Netherlands consolidated its position atop the list by winning the World Cup. Australia, which was runner-up, was the biggest gainer among the top-ranked sides as it jumped from fourth to second place.
The rankings (top 10):
1. The Netherlands (2556), 2. Australia (2180), 3. Argentina (2158), 4. Germany (2015), 5. China (1716), 6. Japan (1410), 7. Spain (1355), 8. New Zealand (1271), 9. Korea (1255), 10. U.S.A. (1180), 13. India (850). PTI
