NEW DELHI: The Indian girls outplayed Hong Kong 2-1 in a positional match of the Asia-Oceania World junior under-14 girls tennis tournament in Anqing, China, on Friday.
Rutuja Bhosale and Sneha Devi Reddy lost three games each in winning their singles matches, and India lost the inconsequential doubles later.
India will play Thailand for the fifth place. Interestingly, it will be a repeat clash of the two teams, following the earlier meeting in the preliminary league. Thailand had scored a thrilling victory in the doubles over India to top the group.
In the semifinals, the fifth-seeded Korea beat the top-seeded Japan 2-1 and the third-seeded China beat the second-seeded Australia 2-1. In both the matches, the singles results proved decisive and both Korea and China were happy to give a walk-over in the doubles, to possibly preserve their players for the final.
