Aruna Santa bagged two golds and a bronze in the boys’ 56kg class as India won four medals on the opening day of the 14th Asian Youth (boys & girls) weightlifting championships at Yangon, Myanmar, on Thursday.

Santa won a bronze in snatch with a lift of 95kg before securing a gold each in clean and jerk and total lift with efforts of 126kg and 221kg respectively.

The other medal for the Indians was won by Chandrika Tarafdar in the youth girls’ (44kg) category. She won the silver with a total lift of 132kg. Chandrika had won a bronze medal in the third Youth World championships at Kosice, Slovakia, in September with a total lift of 129kg. — PTI
