CHENNAI: One of the revelations of this season Arrows FC needed to win to take the runner-up spot in the CFA senior division league but went down 1-3 to SAI on the last day of the league programme on Monday. ICF thus took the second place behind title-winner Indian Bank.

It was a match that for once saw Arrows off colour thanks to the domination of SAI, the most improved outfit in the league. There was enough friction and Referee T. Francis Xavier had a busy time.

Finally, SAI’s J. Suresh paid the price for earning two yellow cards and left the field with an automatic red card punishment. The incident happened with about 14 minutes remaining for the contest but Arrows’ best efforts to capitalise on it could not succeed.

SAI shot into lead in the 10th minute through Suresh and L. Suryakumar made it 2-0 in the 31st minute through sheer opportunism. When M. Pradeep sank a brilliant 35 yarder ten minutes into the second session there was no disputing which team deserved the win.

When Arrow’s foreign recruit Ezekeil nodded one in (61st) it proved only to be a consolation effort. The league’s top scorer was Muthu of AG’s with nine goals, pipping Ramesh of Indian Bank with eight.
