The $1 million Indian Badminton League, to be held in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Lucknow and Pune from August 14 to 31, will also see the launch of the ‘Shuttle Express’ programme with an objective of “promoting the sport among 500,000 children and identifying young talent”, according to a press release here on Friday.

This is essentially an IBL initiative featuring 120 schools in different cities, and will have some big names including Pullela Gopi Chand, Saina Nehwal, G. Jwala, Ashwini Ponappa, P.V. Sindhu and P. Kashyap as brand ambassadors.

The ‘Shuttle Express’ will also offer a prize money of Rs.10 lakh, and a chance to train at the Gopi Chand Academy here.

The programme will be held in three phases to scout talent, and there will be a schools competition from July 12 to 14 while the National finals will be in Mumbai from August 28-31.

The championship will be held in partnership with six schools in each of the six cities as ‘IBL School Partners’.
