HYDERABAD: Hyderabad XI scored a nine-wicket win over Sri Lanka XI in the second V. Hanumantha Rao all-India invitation T20 cricket tournament at Amberpet playground here on Wednesday.

Batting first, Sri Lanka scored 130 fore nine in 20 overs with Ranjith (36) being the top-scorer. For the home team, fast bowler Charan (three for 18) bowled well.

In reply, Hyderabad romped home in 15.4 overs with Vamsiram (76 not out) batting well.

The scores:

Sri Lanka XI 130 for nine in 20 overs (Ranjith 36, Charan three for 18) lost to Hyderabad XI 134 for one in 15.4 overs (Vamsiram 76 not out).

Riyank, Shivani win

Riyank Varma and Shivani Mula won the under-14 years boys’ and girls’ titles respectively in the Sun-Jay Tennis Academy sub-juniors tennis tournament at ASCI here.

In the boys final, Riyank defeated S. Sai Teja 7-5, 6-3 while, Shivani got the better of K.S. Reddy 4-0, 4-1 in the girls final.

SAI selections

Sports Training Centre (SAI, Secunderabad) will conduct selection trials in badminton, gymnastics, hockey, handball, judo and kabaddi at Saroornagar Stadium from January 17 to 25.

Candidates who have taken part in international events, won medals in the State/National level, or were members of a team which was either a winner or a runner-up are eligible to take part in the trials.

They should report with three passport photographs, sports certificates and date of birth certificates.

Hunt for ‘Extraaa Innings’ juniors’

MAX television channel will launch a nationwide hunt for eight junior DLF IPL ‘Extraaa Innings’ T20 hosts starting this January.

Children in the age group of seven to 14 years will be called for auditions between January 16 to February 7 by a panel comprising hosts Gaurav Kapoor and Samir Kochhar.

This concept will seek participation from children across 50 towns and 1,200 schools through School Contact Programmes, radio contests, IVRS modules (Phone No. 5052525) etc.

Registration forms will be distributed in every school and MAX will run a contest wherein the teachers will select 30 students per school based on the criteria shared with them.

The audition tests in Hyderabad will be on January 17.

Andhra Pradesh Table Tennis Association will felicitate seven outstanding medallists at Anandnagar Welfare Association Tennis Academy on January 16 at 5.30 pm.

Shubham Sharma (gold medallist in South Asian Juniors championship in Karachi in 2008, winner of silver in the 2007 US Open juniors circuit, silver medallist in the Commonwealth Youth Games and bronze medallist in the Singapore Open).

The AP sub-junior girls team comprising K. Spoorthy, Akshi Sancheti, T.L. Harshita and Saira Banu (gold in the sub-juniors category of the Nationals in Chennai last month).

A. Sreeja (bronze in the Chennai Nationals); Nikhat Banu (silver in the 71st Nationals in Raipur early this month); K. Spoorthy (juniors singles champion in the National-ranking event in Siliguri last November).
