HYDERABAD: Hyderabad grabbed a vital 33-run first innings lead against Madhya Pradesh as the three-day pre-quarterfinal match in the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) cricket tournament ended in an draw at Siliguri on Monday.
Madhya Pradesh, resuming at 73 for one, was in a commanding position at 321 for four at one stage after the tea break. But in its effort to go for the vital lead, MP lost wickets at regular intervals to be bowled out for 345, conceding a lead of 33 runs. For Hyderabad, G.H. Vihari, who scored a fine century earlier, was the pick of the bowlers claiming three for 70.
The scores: Hyderabad 378 drew with Madhya Pradesh 345 (Aditya Srivatsava 72, Ashutosh Singh 36, Shubham Sharma 113, G.H. Vihari three for 70).
Hyderabad suffers defeat
In the Cooch Behar Trophy (under-19) cricket tournament (Plate Group) on Monday, Hyderabad suffered a six-wicket defeat at the hands of Madhya Pradesh in the semifinals at Indore. Resuming at zero for no loss and chasing a target of 102, Madhya Pradesh romped home despite losing a couple of wickets to be reduced to 64 for four at one stage when fast bowler Kanishkk Naidu (two for 30) bowled well. However, Samay Srivastava (33 not out, 52 balls, 6 x 4) batted sensibly in the company of Parth Sahani (10 not out) to guide Madhya Pradesh home.
