Mohammed Jameer Hussain of Assam smashed three National records in the men’s 94kg competition of the 50th men’s and 26th women’s junior National weightlifting championships which concluded here on Sunday.

Hussain cleared 140kg to upstage Praveen’s record of 138 for the snatch gold. He went on to better his own record of 175 in clean and jerk by lifting 178kg. He also improved the total lift record with a 318kg.

Hansraj of Haryana took all three silvers, while Pradeep Singh of Punjab took home the snatch and total bronzes. M.R. Chaitanya of Andhra Pradesh won gold in clean and jerk and total in the 105kg category.

Mohammed Javed of Uttar Pradesh won the snatch gold (127kg) as Punjab’s Jagjit Singh (126kg) won silver in snatch. C.R. Krishna Kumar of Kerala (160kg) took home clean and jerk bronze.

Maharashtra won the men’s team trophy with 692 points, followed by Andhra Pradesh with 579.

The women’s team honours went to Punjab (684), Odisha followed next with 606.

Kojum Taba of Arunachal Pradesh was adjudged best lifter among men with 390.5 Sinclair points.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu of Manipur was the best among women (288.88).
