World champion Magnus Carlsen reached the highest-ever published-rating of 2882 in the latest world ranking list, effective from May 1.

The 23-year old, who holds the live-rating record of 2889.2 as of April 21, 2014, added one point from the Norwegian Team championship to set a new high after being at 2881 in the past two monthly lists.

Carlsen justified his astronomical rating on Wednesday in winning the Gashimov memorial title.

Viswanathan Anand, who did not play a single rating game in the past month, slipped a rung to be fourth behind Carlsen, Levon Aronian and Alexander Grischuk.

Career-best for Adhiban

In the list of Indian players, World Cup qualifier B. Adhiban jumped to the fifth spot with a career-best rating of 2624. Adhiban’s silver-winning performance in the recent Asian championship was worth 15 rating points, that in turn took him past Abhijeet Gupta, Surya Shekhar Ganguly and K. Humpy since April 1.
