The first Hockey India League (HIL) has witnessed unprecedented media coverage with ESPN STAR Sports announcing that more than 2.27 crore people have seen the broadcast of HIL in the first two weeks which is way ahead of reach garnered by UEFA Euro 2012 in India.

According to the Sport broadcasters, full tournament reach of UEFA Euro was 2.07 crores. HIL at the end of second week has also overtaken the reach of Men’s Hockey Champions Trophy (58 lakhs) by almost four times. In terms of global syndication as well, HIL has seen considerable success with the tournament being showcased in 83 territories worldwide. HIL’s reach is considerably higher than WSH’s reach which stood at 1.24 crore individuals at the end of second week and even on digital front, HIL has achieved considerable success. HIL’s Facebook page has attracted more than 410,000 fans making it world’s largest field hockey Facebook page. On Twitter, HIL has trended multiple times not just in India but also in countries like the USA. Some of the leading names in the world of sports broadcasting like Fox Sports from Australia and Ten Sports in Pakistan are showing live coverage of HIL in respective territories. — PTI
