Saptarshi Roy Chowdhury holds top seed Mikhail Gurevich Parimarjan Negi, Dibyendu Barua among the 19 leaders at Hogeschool Zeeland
NEW DELHI: Grandmaster P. Hari Krishna emerged a worthy champion of the Marx Gyorgy memorial chess tournament when he aggregated 6.5 points from 10 rounds at Paks, Hungary, on Monday.
In the final round, Hari drew with Hungary's Ferenc Berkes in 28 moves to make sure of his first major title of the year.
This was a fine performance from the 2004 World junior champion in this six-player field, which boasted a whopping average rating of 2622.
Ukraine's Zahar Efimenko came second with 5.5 points as all three games on the final day ended in draws. Zoltan Almasi and Wang Yue fought for 64 moves and eventually shared the third spot with five points each.
