ALAPPUZHA: Petroleum Academy found a couple of brave new warriors when the going got tough and retained the boys' team title in the 68th National sub-junior table tennis championship at the Sakthi Auditorium here on Wednesday.

The Ajmer-based team defeated the fancied Tamil Nadu 3-2 and won the sub-junior boys' title. There was double joy for the Petroleum Academy, for a little earlier it had beaten West Bengal for the cadet boys' trophy.

The results (finals): Sub-junior boys: PSPB Academy bt TN 3-2 (Sourav Saha bt Sushmit Sriram 11-5, 11-5, 8-11, 11-5; Sandeepan Dey lost to G.Sathiyan 10-12, 7-11, 8-11; Sourav Saha & Sandeepan Dey lost to Sushmit Sriram & Sathiyan 10-12, 8-11, 11-7, 12-14; Sourav Saha bt Sathiyan 2-11, 12-10, 11-9, 7-11, 11-5; Sandeepan Dey bt Sushmit Sriram 7-11, 11-8, 8-11, 11-9, 11-8).
