CHENNAI: GRD College (Coimbatore) won the Bertram Memorial Shield for basketball with an all-win record in the semifinal league stage at the Bertram memorial tournaments, organised by Loyola College, here on Wednesday.
Sathyabama Deemed University (Chennai) finished second with two wins and holder Loyola College (Chennai) had to settle for third place with just a win.
GRDC defeated Loyola 66-51 in the last of the semifinal league matches. GRDC's game was all about speed and accurate passing and it dominated the proceedings from the beginning.
In another match, Sathyabama edged out SRM Deemed University 64-58.
G.A. Rajkumar, Secretary, Youth Welfare and Sports Development Department gave away the prizes.
In tennis, Vijai Sundar Prasanth of Loyola will meet college-mate Vikram Adithya Manon in the final on Thursday.

A shot in the arm for budding sportsmen
Indian Oil Corporation has entered the sports scholarship arena, for the first time, in a big way this year.
The public sector company has selected several promising sportsmen and women all over India, aged between 14 and 17. They will be given Rs. 5,000 every month, excluding kits, and their performances will be evaluated every six months.
The list includes 12 cricketers, six hockey players, three golfers, 10 badminton, four chess players, eight paddlers and five tennis players. Sports Reporter
