Chennai: The Governor of Tamil Nadu, Surjit Singh Barnala, hosted a high tea in honour of World chess champion Viswanathan Anand at the Raj Bhavan here on Tuesday.
The Governor presented the four-time World champion with a shawl, a bouquet and a memento, and also congratulated him on his achievement.
Mr. Barnala asked Anand about the inconvenience he faced after he was forced to undertake a 40-hour bus journey to Sofia, the venue of his championship match against Bulgarian Veselin Topalov.
Anand was accompanied by his wife Aruna, both of whom arrived in the City from Frankfurt in the early hours of Monday.
Also present on the occasion were Rameshram Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Governor, and K. Vaidyanathan, Vice-Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Physical Education and Sports University. — Sports Reporter
