Bangalore: Indian opener Gautam Gambhir unveiled the Mantri Karnataka Premier League Trophy in a function at the Chinnaswamy Stadium here on Saturday afternoon.

Title sponsor Mantri Developers’ Chairman Sushil Mantri expressed the hope that the KPL will attain the same growth as the Indian Premier League.

The trophy built on an aluminium base features the Karnataka map besides logos of the eight zonal teams and Mantri Developers.

The KPL will commence here on September 9.

MU team launched

Mangalore United, the coastal region’s zonal team that will compete in the Karnataka Premier League, was launched at a function here on Friday night.

The team, that was unveiled earlier in Mangalore, walked up on stage led by captain Bharat Chipli, who held a flaming torch.

The function’s special guests Yuvraj Singh and Ajay Jadeja termed the tournament as a good opportunity for all the players.

Team owner Mohiuddin Bawa said he hoped to tap into the talent present in the districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi.

Akhil to lead

All-rounder B. Akhil will lead Provident Bangalore in the Karnataka Premier League tournament.

The team was launched at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday afternoon in the presence of KSCA President Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadeyar and Secretary Brijesh Patel.

Nagendra shines

Nagendra’s all-round show (four for 14 and 54 n.o.) helped Rashtriya Military School defeat Florence Public School by five wickets in a Boost Cup under-16 match here recently.
