NEW DELHI: A sparkling 129 off 123 balls with 15 fours and a six by opener Gaurav Goel helped Rohtak Road Gymkhana to a 21-run victory over Sonnet Club in the quarterfinals of the 20th all-India Om Nath Sood memorial cricket tournament at the DDA Sports Complex, Pitampura, on Wednesday.
Opting to bat, Rohtak Road Gymkhana made 270, thanks to a 102-run partnership for the third wicket between Gaurav Goel and Mohit Sharma (32) after Sunny Sehrawat had taken two wickets cheaply.
Later, Deepak Sharma struck a quick-fire 40 off 29 balls with two sixes and four fours in taking the team to a sound total.
In reply, Sonnet started on a wrong note as it lost three wickets for 34, but Karan Harit (60) and Milind Kumar (81) made a fight of it with a 101-run partnership off 87 balls for the fifth wicket. Opener Ankit Dabas had also played his part with a fluent half century. Tejinder Singh, Deepak Sharma and Abhishek Sharma grabbed seven wickets between them to ensure victory for Rohtak Road Gymkhana, which will meet Air India in the semifinals on Friday. In the first semifinal to be played on Thursday, ONGC will meet RP Academy.
The scores: Rohtak Road Gymkhana 270 for seven in 40 overs (Gaurav Goel 128, Deepak Sharma 40, Mohit Sharma 32, Sunny Sehrawat four for 46) beat Sonnet Club 249 in 39.2 overs (Milind Kumar 81, Karan Harit 60, Ankit Dabas 52, Tejinder Singh three for 49) .
