Rohan Gajjar, the second seed, quelled Vijayant Malik's challenge to win the Corporation Bank Manipal Open ITF championship at the Marena Sports Complex here on Saturday. The scoreline was 3-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Gajjar pocketed $1300 while Malik, playing in his first final, was richer by $900. Gajjar shared $350 with Vitali Reshetnikov of Russia for winning the doubles title.
“I should be playing more Challengers along with the Futures. It's going to be a long grind but I will attempt to reach the high levels,” said Gajjar, after winning his second ITF title.
His earlier victory came in Malaysia last July before a wrist injury laid him low for six months.
Karnataka State Home Minister V.S. Acharya gave away the trophies.
