Merab Gagunashvili of Georgia maintained his sole lead at the end of the eighth round of the KIIT International Grandmasters chess tournament at Bhubaneswar on Saturday.
The win over compatriot Mikheil Mchedishvili took him to seven points.
Three players — Farrukh Amonatov (Tajikistan), Zaven Andriasian (Armenia) and Levan Pantsulaia (Geo) — were in the second spot with 6.5 apiece. India’s Swapnil Dhopade and Gevorg Harutjunyan of Armenia shared the third spot with six points each.
Two more rounds remain.
