LUBANGO: Gabon shocked Cameroon 1-0 in the opening Group ‘D’ match of the Africa Cup of Nations on Wednesday. Cousin scored the match-winner.
Benin and Mozambique both failed in their bid to win a first-ever Africa Cup of Nations match when they played out a 2-2 draw in a Group ‘C’ encounter on Tuesday.
A penalty from Razak Omotoyossi and an own-goal from Mozambique defender Dario Khan in the first 21 minutes threatened an avalanche for Benin.
Mozambique, with a record of one draw and eight losses in its three previous tournament appearances, pulled a goal back in the 29th minute through Miro and a 54th minute equaliser through Fumo.
The results: Group ‘D’: Gabon 1 (Cousin) bt Cameroon 0; Group ‘C’: Mozambique 2 (Miro 29, Fumo 55) drew with Benin 2 (Omotoyossi 14-pen, Dario 21-og).
