CHENNAI: Southern Railway registered a 4-1 victory over Sports Authority of India (SAI) thanks to a brace by M. Elamurugan in the St. Joseph's Chennai Football Association (CFA) senior division league here on Friday.

A frantic start to the game saw R. Tamizhmani score for Southern Railway almost straight from the kick off after M. Jeevan Kumar scuffed a regulation clearance.

The joy for Southern Railway was, however, short lived as D. Ganesh converted a penalty in the fourth minute to equalise for SAI after a handball by Jude Vincent.

SAI was unlucky not to have taken the lead in the 25th minute when a rasping strike by Ranjith Kumar crashed against the crossbar. Southern Railway went ahead in the 32nd minute. A lovely through ball by P.C. Riju was finished with aplomb by Elamurugan.

The second half saw Southern Railway absorb pressure and play on the counter-attack. In the 83rd minute, the diminutive Riju tricked his way past two defenders and squared perfectly for M. Bharath to score Southern Railway's third goal.

Soon after, Elamurugan scored his second of the game, bundling a cross from the left wing past the goalline. Barring his slip-up leading to SAI's lone goal, Jude Vincent was commanding at the back for Southern Railway.
