Chandigarh: Chandigarh Dynamos scored a 3-2 win over Sher-e-Jalandhar to remain in the race for the third place in the Premier Hockey League here on Tuesday.
Shers, having already qualified for the best-of-three finals, rested some of its key players. Dynamos drew the first blood in the 17th minute following a long corner. Skipper Rajpal Singh got the ball after a goalmouth melee and gave a pass to Ravipal Singh near the top of the circle. With two defenders all over him, Ravipal managed to find space and scooped into the net past rival custodian Kamaldeep Singh.
Shers got the equaliser through a penalty corner in the 40th minute when Spaniard Santi Freixa did a swerve to confuse the defenders and put Gagan Ajit Singh in possession. Gagan slammed into the boards to make it 1-1.
However, Dynamos took the lead once again with some pleasing moves upfront where Rajpal and Prabjot Singh combined well.
Inderjit Chadha played a playmaker's role in the attack, feeding dangerous ball to his strikers. Jugraj Singh found the net off a short corner after Chadha and Irshad Ali did the spadework in the 52nd minute.
But the lead was short-lived as Shers made it 2-2 within two minutes when Santi proved equally good with his drag-flick from Shers' fourth set-piece drill.
Undaunted by the reverse, Dynamos posted the match-winner in the 61st minute.
Chadha sent a short pass after entering the circle to Mandeep Singh on the left. Mandeep then passed it on to an unmarked Prabjot near the far post. The Dynamos' star just nudged the ball in with an open goal staring at him.
Inderjit Singh Chadha was declared Lion of the Day. PTI
