Samarth Dwivedi won the stroke-play event of the Tata Steel Eastern India amateur at the RCGC here on Wednesday. He produced a superb round of three under par 69 to end up the winner.

The top 32 from the stroke-play event qualified for the match-play event beginning on Thursday. In an interesting dual for the final spot, H.S. Kang shot a birdie on the first play-off hole to secure the last and 32nd spot in the main round.

Bangalore’s Trishul Chinnappa came up with a well-compiled 68 to finish second, four shots behind the winner while Aman Raj was tied for third place along with joint-leader Gagan Verma.

India international and Bangalore-based Syed Saqib Ahmed was in the fifth place along with city-mate B.R. Raja and last year’s Order of Merit winner Karan Taunk of Jamshedpur.
