Sozhi Janakiram Dwarakanath (68), former senior racing correspondent of The Hindu, passed away after a prolonged illness at a Secunderabad hospital on Monday night.

With over four decades of racing reportage behind him, he was adjudged champion tipster over a dozen times by the Hyderabad Race Club (HRC) in Malakpet.

Prior to joining The Hindu, he had served at The Indian Express and the now defunct Newstime.

His last rites will be performed at his native town of Panruti in Tamil Nadu's Cuddalore district at noon on Wednesday.

He is survived by wife and son. — Special Correspondent
