NEW DELHI: Tennis may not have high profile test events like the World Cup in hockey, but the DLTA Complex will be put to test for about 17 weeks of international events, before the Commonwealth Games in October, in 2010.

A $15,000 men’s ITF event and a $25,000 women’s ITF event will be held simultaneously from May 10, to test the tennis venue. It may not be much of a test, as DLTA has been holding such tournaments on six courts even when the whole complex was being renovated.

However, from May 24 to the week of September 6, the venue is scheduled to have 16 successive weeks of international tournaments, culminating in two men’s $50,000 Challengers, apart from a women’s $25,000 event. There will be seven $15,000 men’s tournaments and six $10,000 women’s events.

In fact, only three other international tournaments, men’s $15,000 ITF Futures events are scheduled to be held in Kolkata, Chandigarh and Vijayawada over three weeks from March 15. Otherwise, all the international tournaments will be played at the DLTA Complex. — Special Correspondent
