K. Dinesh Karthik (175, 168b, 16x4, 8x6) led the pack of five century-makers on the opening day of the fifth-round matches in the Buchi Babu memorial invitation tournament on Tuesday. The bowlers didn't fare badly either — three spinners, including Ravindra Jadeja (eight for 87), secured five-wicket hauls.
Karthik's whirlwind knock propelled TNCA President's XI to 442 for eight against Andhra. K. Shri Vasudeva Das (100, 97b, 11x4, 2x6) joined hands with Karthik to add 183 runs for the fifth wicket in 23.3 overs.
The 26-year-old Karthik reached his century in the last over before tea, with a six over deep mid-wicket. In the final session, he clobbered 67 runs off 52 balls.
Powered by Akash Chopra's knock (142, 179b, 5x4, 5x6), Rajasthan finished strongly at 382 for eight against Vidarbha. Chopra shared century partnerships with Vineet Saxena (43, 3x4, 2x6) and Robin Bisht (46, 3x4, 1x6).
Akshath Reddy (137, 188b, 15x4, 4x6) raised 228 runs for the first wicket with skipper D.B. Ravi Teja (107, 6x4, 2x6) to help Hyderabad reach 369 for six against TNCA.
Saurashtra's Ravindra Jadeja was instrumental in spinning Kerala out for 253 after it was cruising at 192 for two at one stage.
Left-arm spinner Swapnil Singh (seven for 88) did the star turn for Baroda, dismissing Mumbai for 306.
