Delhi thrashed Karnataka by 10 wickets to reach the semifinals of the Vijay Merchant Trophy (under-16) cricket tournament on the fourth and final day of their quarterfinal match at the St. Stephen’s College ground here on Saturday.
Sumit Mathur claimed five wickets and Sidhant Sharma bagged four to help Delhi restrict Karnataka, which resumed at 119 for five, to 191 runs in the second innings and pave the way for the home team’s win.
In another match, Madhya Pradesh got past Tamil Nadu on the basis of first innings lead after the match ended in a draw.
The scores: Karnataka 185 and 191 in 95.2 overs (Ankith Udupa 85, Sumit Mathur five for 64, Sidhant Sharma four for 36) lost to Delhi 353 and 24 for no loss in 9.3 overs.
Madhya Pradesh 331 & 118 for five in 70 overs (Arjun Patel 31 n.o., Shreyas Pandit 25, R. Sai Kishore three for 41) drew with Tamil Nadu 285 in 151.2 overs (K. Vishal Vaidhya 78, Daryl S. Ferrario 66, Washington Sundar 44, G.V. Vignesh 40, Kshitij Somkunwar six for 73); Madhya Pradesh entered the semifinals on the basis of first innings lead. — Principal Correspondent
