Chennai Customs recorded a comfortable 3-1 win over FCI in the St. Joseph's CFA senior division football league here on Thursday. The win took Customs to the top of the table with 17 points from seven matches.

It was not smooth sailing for Customs as the team looked rusty after enjoying a few days' break. Sathish Jr fired a couple of shots at goal but failed to fetch Customs the lead.

It was FCI which went ahead, in the 28th minute, through a brilliant pass from Nirmal Durai from the centre to the unmarked Saravana Kumar, who made no mistake. The score read 1-0 at half-time.

The second half started on a brisk note. FCI made a strategic blunder by trying to defend its lead instead of widening the margin, and played into Customs' hands.

The equaliser came in the 63rd minute through a cross from the right by Sathish Sr to Ramesh, who slotted home.

This opened the floodgates as the second goal arrived three minutes later, a pass from Sathish Jr to Jaykumar doing the trick.

With just a lone striker — Ganesh Prabhu — patrolling the Customs area, FCI could hardly make inroads.

In the 87th minute, Customs put the issue beyond doubt when Sathish Sr scored off a cross from the right by Bharathi Raja.

In a first division match, Mohan, Gerald and Rajkumar scored a goal each as DBYC Broadway beat D.B. Annai Youth 3-0.

The result:

Chennai Customs 3 (Ramesh, Jaykumar, Sathish Sr) bt FCI 1 (Saravana Kumar).
